Many of Alfred Sisley's wistful, lyrical landscapes radiate with beauty, originality, and technical brilliance, but his reclusive nature and the uneven quality of his output have made him the least known of the major Impressionists.

Of the many books on Alfred Sisley this book is the best by far. Most books on the artist are loaded with the same images and a short biography but this book is the exception with studies of his early influences, his contributions to the movement of Impressionism, critiques of his style and subject matter, insights into his personality which made it more difficult for him to be accepted as was 5/5(3).
